When it comes to plumbing dilemmas, blocked drains are one of the most frustrating. To help you out, the plumbing experts at Allana Plumbing have put together a little bit of information for how to unblock a drain.
DIY is an option sometimes, but weigh up the pros and cons and call a professional if in doubt.
How to deal with a blocked drain naturally
If soap or fat have clogged your drain, start by trying to unblock it with boiling water. If this doesn’t work, add 1/2 cup salt, 1/2 cup bi-carb, and 1 cup of vinegar to the hot water.
This method is safe for you, the sink, pipes, and environment and should be repeated as required.
How to deal with a blocked drain with a tool
The good old fashion plunger will always force the blockage from your pipes. The force of the push sends air through the pipe, clearing the clog. We recommend covering the overflow with a damp cloth to create a drain seal then getting to work with the plunger to see if it solves your problem.
If you have a double kitchen sink, block off the second drain to create the right amount of pressure, and always try the plunger a few times before giving up.
If neither of these methods work, give the experts at Allana Plumbing a call, and we’ll take care of it for you!
